"Lambrusco. Manufactured on an industrial scale for a world market proved its undoing, eventually deep-sixing not only its own reputation, but also prospects for anything bearing a resemblance to it. Sparkling reds became about as down-market as a wine category could be." - Boston Globe
'Secco & Red' Retailers
It's time to recognize and support wine retailers who are helping to change the image of Lambrusco (f.k.a. "the wine with the world's worst reputation") by making an effort to introduce and promote authentic Lambrusco.
Traditional Lambrusco is neither white (bianco) nor super sweet (dolce). Authentic Lambrusco is labeled (!!!) 'secco' (bone dry to off-dry) or 'amabile' (semisweet) and estate-bottled. Real Lambrusco - regardless of style - has a minimum of 11% alcohol (not 3% to 10.5%) and doesn't come in cans or twist-off bottles.
